Obchodní akademie Dr. Edvarda Beneše ve Slaném (Secondary School of Economics)

Is a secondary school for boys and girls at the age of 15(16)-18(19). It is situated in a small town called Slaný, which is located in central Bohemia and has almost 16 thousand inhabitants.  Slaný lies about 30km from Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic.

Our school has rich history. It was officially founded in 1872 as the result of economy development in the end of the 19th century. The name of the school has been changed many times and its current name is Obchodní akademie Dr. Edvarda Beneše Slaný, where the name of one of our former presidents is used. Its symbol is Merkur, the god of business, earnings and travelling.

230 students attend the school recently. They have lessons of Czech, Math, etc., but also special subjects such as Economics, Accounting, Written Electronic Communication, Information and Communication Technologies, and Law. Their voluntary subjects are two foreign languages. They can choose either German or Russian, everyone has to learn English. Spanish used to be taught there, but now it´s just an afterschool club.  In the second grade every student chooses line of his/her study for the third and the fourth grade. They can choose either Tourism or Business. Students also decide which voluntary subject they take up as the preparation for Maturita exam: Conversation in foreign language or Optional Math.

A lot of our students regularly take part in various Olympics, competitions and tournaments and very often succeed.

We appreciate cooperation among (not only) European schools and try to provide students with international educational possibilities.
